My Marketing Campaign

For my A2 Media project, I have decided to pick the Action genre. I have conducted some research in this genre to ensure I fully understand what it is all about.

Here is a link to the Action genre Wikipedia page:

I discovered that the following is common in an action film:

- One person 'saves the day'
- Lots of eye candy
- Many impact sounds and music with a fast tempo

I also did some brief research on some very successful action films including:

- James Bond
- Die Hard
- Fast and Furious
- Mission Impossible
- Taken

I will now conduct further research into the action genre in order to ensure that my teaser trailer, poster and magazine front cover are as realistic as possible.

Teaser Trailer Conventions

For my research I looked at 3 teaser trailers from different genres and I saw that the same conventions are repeated for each genre (some in a genre specific way). The most commons ones I found are these:

  • Production company logos
  • Images from the film
  • Title of the film
  • Release dates
  • Indication of genre
  • Website
  • Voiceover
  • Fast editing
  • Cast, crew and director credits
  • References to other films
  • Images of stars
  • References to awards
  • Music
  • Tagline
  • Sound effects (Impact sounds)
  • Eye candy
  • A large variety of camera shots
  • Little dialogue and narrative development
When I make my teaser trailer, I will try and add as many of these in as possible, but once I decide on which genre my teaser trailer will be, I will research more genre specific conventions and add those in as well.
